Thankful in the Desert

I know this is super late.  Don't judge me.  It's more for my records anyway.  That way I don't feel bad for not keeping a scrapbook.

For Thanksgiving this year we followed the Morby family tradition and went down to Arizona to see Grandma and Grandpa Schvaneveldt.  (My family ditched us and went to Costa Rica anyway.)  It's always so nice to get out of the Utah cold and see some desert sunshine.

On the way down we split up the drive to make it easier on Berkley... or maybe to make it easier on us traveling with a baby.  She did just fine.
We even left early to escape the "blizzard of the century."  It turned out to be a normal snowstorm but we didn't see a single flake.  In fact, the drive was quite scenic.
I fell in love with the seussical look of the joshua trees.
We stopped to check out the new bridge at the Hoover Dam.
It was pretty cool.  Quite an engineering feat.
And it offered a nice view of the dam.
It was nice to stretch our legs even though it was super windy.
On Thanksgiving day, the men golfed in the morning while the women cooked, chatted, and played games.
The food was excellent as well as the company and Berkley got all the attention she could ever want.  We also discovered, to our surprise, that she likes pickles.  We were hoping for a sour face.  We kept talking about giving her one of the fresh limes off of the tree but we forgot to do it.  Who knows, she probably would've liked that too.
The day after Thanksgiving I got up super early to shop for the first time ever.  It wasn't even because there was something I really wanted, it was just because it was easier to do it while Berkley was still sleeping.  We found some ok deals but nothing to write home about.

Later that day we went down to a desert museum.
It was really cool to see all of the cacti species and desert creatures.  It really is beautiful in its' own way.
Berkley with Zack's cute cousins Allie and Grace.  They adored each other.
The only picture I have of our gracious hosts.  It's a good one right?
 Like father, like daughter.
To get to and from the museum we drove through Saguaro National Park.
It was amazing.  The hills were covered with huge cacti just like a Utah mountain is covered in pine trees.  They grow so slowly that I was in awe at the size of them and how old they must be.  Luckily we drove through at sunset.
We spent the rest of the time hanging out with the family, eating more delicious food, doing more shopping and golfing, playing more games, and Berkley even got her feet wet in the pool.  She was way more excited about it this time around than at Bear Lake in July.
When it came time to go home we did it in one straight shot.  We even took turns driving.
Ok no we didn't.  Zack drove the whole way.  Before we even hit Ceder City we ran into the snow storm.  It was pretty much stop and go from there on out.  What should've been a 13 hour drive turned into a 17 hour drive and we were all at our wit's end by the time we got home.  We couldn't have made it without Rylee, our backseat entertainer.  Berkley did great with Rylee there!  Nothing like coming home to a winter wonderland to get you in the holiday spirit right?
