The Party

We had a little party for Berkley the day after her birthday.  I'm not one of those moms who starts planning her kids' birthdays before they're even conceived.  In fact it was pretty last minute and I didn't even do invitations *GASP* I just called/texted people.  We had all of our family over.  It was an adult only party because Berkley doesn't have any cousins, but all of her aunts, uncles, grandparents, and even some great grandparents were there to celebrate.  We had pizza, opened presents, and of course ate cake.

Here is my attempt at getting some pics of Berkley in her b-day outfit before the party.
I tried to bribe her with cheerios to stay still.  All it did was give me some funny faces and she didn't stay still.
All the guests got little cupcakes and Berkley got a huge cupcake made by her Aunt Rylee.
Berkley was pretty good at opening her presents since she had practice from Christmas.  She still got pretty distracted though.
She kept handing the wrapping paper pieces to Grandpa Morby like he was the trash collector.  Pretty funny.

She got a lot of fun stuff and cute clothes!  She knew right where this bow was supposed to go.
Of course I didn't get any pictures of our party guests.  You can tell where my focus was.
The big cake debut!  This video might be pretty boring for most of you.  I should've panned around to our guests singing but I was waiting for Berkley to smile or have some sort of reaction.  She usually really likes music and singing but she was a little weirded out.  She also didn't know what to do with the cake.  After Zack showed her she could eat the frosting, she daintily picked off the frosting pieces for a while before she actually dug in.
I might as well throw this one in too.  We gave Berkley some bubbles for her birthday and tried them out the day after her party.  She was a little scared at first but ended up liking them.

Good Old Dad

In honor of my Dad's 50th birthday last week, I had to post this GEM of a picture I came across of my parents in the early 90's...

Isn't it priceless?  Happy birthday Dad!

12 Months

Our little Berkley Ann turned 1 on January 21st!
It's a good thing this is my last monthly post since I get farther and farther behind with each one.  It's also a good thing this was the last monkey picture to take because it was next to impossible.

I know all Mom's say this but it's just crazy how fast this year has flown by.  It's like once you have a baby, time starts moving in fast forward or something.
Her Dr's appointment was probably the worst one yet.  She was scared of the Dr.  She was crying and freaking out.  Then when he used the tongue depressor she puked all over me.  Not spit up, vomit.  Anyway, she weighed in at 19lbs 9oz which is about the 25%ile and she was 28.5" tall which is about the 35%ile.  She's a little bit petite but healthy and growing like a weed.

Here are a couple of comparisons of when she was brand new vs. now.
In the carseat
Now she has a new big girl carseat.  She's not quite big enough to face forward but even if she was, I'd keep her rear-facing as long as possible.  I've seen the youtube videos.  I'd rather not have a baby with a snapped neck.  Freaked me out a little.

Stretching out in the crib:
I was lucky to get a shot of her laying down before this happened:
And then this:
And then begging to get out.
This month was the first time she got "take-to-the-Dr" sick.  Could it be because I had just fully weaned her from breastfeeding?  Possibly.  It started with a cough on New Year's Eve.  She ended up puking, got a fever, kept waking up at night and couldn't nap.  After we invested in a humidifier and some vick's baby rub, it wasn't getting any better so we took her in on January 2nd.  Turns out she had croup and an ear infection.  After a shot, antibiotics, and some tlc she was as good as new.  At that Dr visit she weighed 18lbs 7oz so she grew quite a bit in the next few weeks.
On New Year's Eve we attempted some self-portraits and silly faces.
This was her best face:
She isn't walking yet.  The Dr says she could if she wanted to, she's just scared.  It's true, she can balance really well and push around her little walker with ease but as soon as you let go of her hands she plops right down on her bum.  She's always been cautious though, even with crawling, so I'm not worried about it.
On the other side of the spectrum, she's a very good talker.  She says several words and animal sounds and it seems like she learns new ones every day.  We decided to try and teach her some sign language and she has picked that up really quickly too.  I think I underestimate how much she actually understands and she just keeps surprising me.  Like the other day I said "nice" and she softly pet my face.  I had no idea she knew what nice meant.
-Some words she says are: dada, hat (her new obsession), dog woof woof, eye, oh soft (to blankets), wassat?, all done (ah duh), bath (this one is my fav because she sticks her tongue out for the whole word), uh oh (she loves to throw things on the ground and say uh oh with a smile), everything else is "dat." That's all I can think of right now.
-Animal noises she makes: dog, monkey, cow, snake, bear, and everything else just growls.
-Signs she's learned so far: hat, food, more, all done, sleepy, milk, blows kisses, high fives, etc.
-Our favorite trick that she does is when we say the word "gross" she makes a gagging noise.
She started crawling up the stairs the day after her birthday.  She had been afraid until then.  It's like a light-bulb went on in her head and she could do it all of a sudden.  Going down came a few days later.

She loves stuffed animals.  She'll attack them like this and say "oh soft."
Blowing kisses
This was the first day we tried baby legs.  They're super cute but ended up like this.  She also likes to play the wii.
These were her first pig tails so naturally I had to take some pictures.
And we can't forget a mess picture.  She gets into everything.  Recently, she's figured out how to open cabinet doors.
"Ultimate punch"
Actually, I was trying to capture her doing this move.  She balances like this and thinks it's way fun.
We often look at the dog across the street.  She seriously loves dogs.  We may have to get her a little pet someday... someday when I'm ready to take care of one.
Bam bam
This one cracks me up every time.  She was dancing to the music from her magnet farm.  She LOVES music.
Signing "hat"
And loving her monkey.  We think she's the cutest thing ever and it's so fun to watch her learn and grow.
