Easter

The day before Easter we headed to the Morby's house for our annual egg coloring.

Berkley opted to paint her eggs.  Don't mind my sleep-deprived self.  I look like I could drop dead any second.

Berkley had fun on Easter morning putting on her "bunny hat" and finding her Easter basket.  She was even more excited when she discovered what was inside the Easter eggs.

She also liked her new cradle for Candy (her doll.)

Her first taste of a peep.  She totally loved it.  What kid wouldn't love biting into a lump of sugar?

We weren't quite ready to take Peyton to church being only a week and a half old so I stayed home with her.  I was sad to miss Easter Sunday at church because I love that the entire day is focused on the Atonement.  While we were hanging out at home I couldn't help but take these pictures.  (We took some of Berkley in the same basket 2 years ago when she was 2 months old.)

That evening I took the girls to my parents' house for Easter dinner.  Zack stayed home and worked on his final projects.  Merrisa set up an Easter egg hunt for Berkley in the back yard.

She found all the eggs.

So many, in fact, that she had a hard time carrying them.

It was quite the balancing act to get them to stay in her basket.

Peyton's Newborn Pictures

Zack has an Aunt who recently started her own photography business.  She offered to come take some newborn pictures of Peyton.  Who could say no to that?  I was really excited that she was able to come and I think they turned out pretty darn cute.  Peyton was 8 days old.

This bonnet was worn by Zack's Grandma Schvaneveldt when she was blessed and it was made out of his Great Grandma Cragun's wedding dress.

Mustache March

Zack convinced a bunch of the guys at his work to grow out their mustaches for the month of March.  Here are the rules:

And of course we had to take a few snapshots of the mustache in all its glory before it was eliminated on April 1st.

The Cradle

When I was a little girl, my Uncle Paul made some cute cradles for me and some of my little girl cousins to put our dolls in.  My mom still has mine at her house.  One of my cousins returned hers to my Grandma because she doesn't have a use for it.  So my Grandma let me have it for Berkley.  Here's what they all look like:
I decided to spruce it up a bit to match Berkley's other stuff.  I painted it the same blue as the balls on her bed.  I'm no artist so I just painted the little knobs an orangey-pink and then went over the whole thing with a white stain to give it a little bit of an antique look.  And here's what it looks like now:
I finished it in March but decided to save it for an Easter gift.

Introducing...

Peyton Jane Morby
Born on 3/27/12 at 2:31pm
6 lbs 12 oz, 19 in long
The Story:
A mildly painful contraction woke me up a little before 7am.  I thought nothing of it because contractions weren't unusual.  I had another one 15-20 minutes later and another 15-20 minutes after that.  I texted Zack and told him we might be having a baby that day.  He asked if he needed to come home and I told him no.  They might just go away.  Plus the doctor told me to go to the hospital when they were 5 minutes apart and I couldn't talk through them.  So I went about my day as usual and started timing the contractions.  I was planning on going grocery shopping that morning but decided it wasn't a good idea because the contractions were getting closer together and more painful.  I cleaned the house a little, finished packing bags for me and Berkley, and read the labor and delivery section of What to Expect When You're Expecting.  (I was induced with Berkley so I really didn't know what naturally going into labor felt like.)  By 11:00 the contractions were less than 10 minutes apart and they were painful enough that I had to stop what I was doing so I texted Zack to come home.  Drew was able to come to our house to watch Berkley and we left for the hospital.  We arrived at about noon but they were busy in labor and delivery that day so I waited in the lobby for quite a while.  By the time they checked me it was 12:40 and I was at a 6.  The contractions started coming every 2-3 minutes and they were really painful.  I wanted some medication.  It took them a while to get me into a room and get my IV in so they could finally give me an epidural.  I was in so much pain by that point that I couldn't focus on anything but breathing.  My whole body was shaking.  They checked me again a few minutes after giving me the epidural and I was at a 10.  The epidural still hadn't kicked in.  The anesthesiologist gave me an extra shot of medicine, Zack ran out to the car to grab the camera, I just laid on my side waiting for the doctor to get to the hospital.  The medicine started giving me some relief just as my doctor arrived.  She got set up, broke my water, and the baby was out in 3 pushes.  It seriously was such a whirlwind but I think I prefer doing it hard and fast like that to sitting in a hospital bed all day long eating only suckers and ice chips and playing the waiting game.  I felt really good afterward too. (Even though I was numb for a good 4 hours thanks to my extra dose of epidural medicine.  So worth it though.)  Zack was even able to make it to class that evening.
Luckily Mustache March wasn't over yet.
Zack said that a mustache is a sign of a dedicated father.  This is proven by these pictures of our own fathers.
Lots of family came to visit us.  Unfortunately children under 14 weren't allowed in due to flu/RSV season so Berkley had to wait until we came home to meet Peyton. (That rule ended April 1st so we were just a few days too early.)
I think newborn diapers are the smallest things I've ever seen.  I also think Berkley grew 3 feet while I was in the hospital.  The first time I picked her up again I was shocked by how heavy she is.
I am just loving the newborn stage and hoping she never gets bigger.  I love her quiet cry, the faces she makes when she's sleeping, her super soft hair and skin, her teeny tiny hands and feet, I just can't get enough of her.
Somebody wrote the wrong length on the card.  Oh well.
So little in her car seat.
Our first family picture.
Being a Mom of two has been a big adjustment but Peyton has been a really good baby so that has helped a lot.  Berkley loves her "baby sis" and, even though she's gotten a little bit attention hungry at times, she really has adjusted quite well. We've had to teach her to be careful though.  She had never really been around babies before so she didn't know what to do.  This is a video of the first time she held Peyton.
Now she's very helpful.  Always trying to "put her binky on" and give her toys to play with.
Just for kicks I took a 40 week picture.  This is the day after my due date.  Peyton is 6 days old.
